Lazy Lunch

I'm making banana muffins right now (with chocolate chips) so I wanted a super quick and easy lunch while they are baking. I just warmed up some garlic naan bread, and cut up some red bell pepper and cucumber.

Certainly not the most creative lunch :) but I just need something to tide me over until the muffins cool!

"Green" Monster

Well my summer is officially planned out. Tomorrow I start my internship at Ralph Lauren, and next Wednesday I start training at Macy's for my part-time job.

I didn't get many vegetables or fruits in today, so this "green" smoothie was a great way to get a bunch of servings in at once. It's my dessert for tonight, but i can't promise I won't also have some vegan chocolate :)

I made my smoothie with 1/2 cup vanilla soy milk, 1 cup water, 1/2 cup mixed frozen berries, one banana, 2 cups fresh spinach.

Not exactly green, but i got some spinach in their anyway!

I hadn't really ran or gone to the gym more than once in the last two weeks, so after watching my DVRd Biggest Loser tonight, I was motivated to bike to the gym and do a 40 minute workout. Good enough!

How dumb do they think we are?

I can't believe the dairy industry is using this argument to try to "stick it to" the soy/almond/rice/hemp milk industry. The link below takes you to the National Milk Producers Federation's page about their push to make non-dairy milks change their terminology and packaging.

http://www.nmpf.org/washington_watch/standardsandsafety/imitation_dairy

They actually argue that Americans cannot tell the difference between soy milk and cows milk because its the same color, shown being used on cereal and labeled as a "great alternative to milk".

How dumb do they think we are?

Exhibit A: Rice Dream rice milk. Clearly labeled "non-dairy alternative to milk made from rice". Also, it's kept in the regular aisles many times and not refrigerated, that should give the consumer a clue!

Exhibit B: Follow Your Heart Vegan Gourment Cheese Alternative. It also clearly states "dairy free".

This is clearly just a silly way for the Dairy Industry to try to impose costs on the dairy alternatives industry. So ridiculous.

Now excuse me while I go eat some cereal with NON DAIRY rice milk on top :)

Recent veganism

So I've been a vegan for 5 weeks at this point. I have had a slip up regarding... chocolate! Ahhh man. I've been a vegetarian for about 4 years now. I felt that I was being a little hypocritical by not going all the way and cutting out dairy (I didn't eat eggs before... I hate them).

I've seen a lot of good changes since cutting out dairy. My skin used to break out all the time (I always had blemishes). I was very prone to cystic acne around my chin and mouth, but I haven't even had one in weeks... *knock on wood*. In general, my skin is much smoother and when I do get a blemish it is small and clears up in 2 days.

Eating vegan is definitely something I'm going to stick with for the foreseeable future.

Some swaps I've made with what I eat are:

1) rice milk
2) follow your heart cheeses.. I make "mac and cheese" several nights a week because honestly it is SO good. I think it tastes a lot like real cheese, and I'm really picky so that's saying something.
3) tofutti mint "ice cream" sandwiches.

All of these things are delicious. I love them.

Honestly, the improvements in my skin is all the incentive i need to continue with this change. (I haven't lost any weight.... definitely due to the fact that I haven't been exercising often...oops, and because I've been eating a LOT of food haha)

Teeny Tiny NY closet

1st row: Charles David boots; Anthropologie lace up boots; BCBGirls two tone heels; Zara navy heels; grey suede Nine West boots; Steve Madden oxford heels.

2nd row: Bass vintage oxfords, Naturalizer lace up boots; Anthropologie heels; target strappy black heels.

3rd row: Calvin Klein black flats; Nine West black heels, Frye Harness Boots.

So many shoes not shown... i wish i had a big closet like at home. That's the downside of NYC... but what we lack in apartment space we make up for in an amazing city.

Currently craving these from Aldo:
.... I can't buy them. I'm really working on saving money. Another pair of shoes will not make me happy. I repeat- another pair of shoes will not make me happy.... a blouse on the other hand..... ;-) haha

Weekend Wrap Up

This weekend I didn't do much- I did see The Time Traveler's Wife... which I actually really enjoyed. I may have cried for about.... 90% of the movie, haha. Saturday night I met friends out for drinks and then met up with a certain someone to finish out the night and check out a bar near my apartment. I had a lot of fun.. he always makes me laugh.

When I got home Saturday night I went to my roommate L's room to ask her something. She was so passed out that she just kept responding with "Just tell me you love me. Tell me you love me." and... "Just get into bed with me". It was pretty hilarious. In the morning I woke up and found my other roommate C sleeping on the couch... turns out L's friend Matt had slept on our couch but got up in the middle of the night and took off his shirt and crawled into bed with C. She woke up and freaked out. Matt woke up and was very confused.

It was a pretty funny morning.
"You're beautiful. I don't tell you that enough- you are really beautiful"

I keep finding heart stickers on my body. Makes me think of him.

Bonnaroo- June 2009. I had a certain obsession with this lovely Zebra in the campsite next to ours. It's been almost a year since these were taken I can't believe how time flies.

Gray Day

blazer: Zara, tank top: J Crew, jeans: Community Denim from bloomingdales, boots: Frye.

I was really getting used to the warm weather here in New York, and now BAM- we're hit with 40 degrees again. I guess I can't complain, as it allowed me to break out my favorite boots and blazer for today.

Went to class, stopped at work and did some errands. Not a very exciting Friday.

This is going to make me look so nerdy but I'm really excited for Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution on ABC tonight at 8pm. It's pretty much about revamping our diets and he starts at an elementary school in West Virginia. I think it looks pretty interesting.

Off to do more errands and hit the gym! Have a good weekend!

Post NY Fashion Week

Went to the Coterie Trade Show this weekend post New York Fashion Week. There were thousands of companies and retailers in one convention center. Being able to walk around and see the amazing designs up close was divine, and I found it quite interesting to see how the process of buying and selling worked at the show.

I think that it's a career that I am interested in, and although many of the industry people were self-involved, entitled, and rude....... a lot of them were very sweet! I really enjoyed the experience, and would love to get into the fashion industry one day.

The outfits were great, I didn't have my camera (stupid me), but there were some killer Marni shoes being rocked with tights by one woman. I couldn't stop staring.

In other news...
last week i went to the Bloomingdale's big brown bag sale and snagged a Kain long sleeve black shirt, a Kain taupe kimono cardigan and some Community skinny jeans for amazing prices.

I love Kain Label, their garments are so amazingly soft and luxurious.

Here's to a new decade full of health, wealth and happiness.
